Megalopolis + Megadoc
This Double Feature will be presented with a 10-minute intermission
Last year, filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola released Megalopolis, a project that had been in development for 40 years. The film’s reported $120 million budget was entirely self-financed by Coppola and produced outside of the Hollywood studio system, granting him complete creative control to bring his vision to fruition. The film was met with a very polarized reaction from critics at its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, and rejection from audiences at the Box Office. Yet Megalopolis still remains one of the most ambitious films to be released in the past 25 years from one of our great American auteurs.
Meanwhile, director Mike Figgis (Leaving Las Vegas) was brought on to capture every piece of the film’s production and premiere on video. Megadoc is Figgis’s intimate telling of how the film was made, showcasing the ups and downs that come with an artist realizing their passion project. Featuring interviews with Coppola himself, his peers, and cast and crew members from the film, Megadoc is the ultimate compendium to help describe a completely indescribable film.
In this exclusive double feature, Davis Theater invites you to experience all of Megalopolis, both in front of and the behind the camera. Explore the world of Megalopolis, followed by a peak behind the curtain with Megadoc. Questions trying to rationalize some of Coppola’s decisions may finally be answered, or you may end up with more questions.
